A truck carrying thousands of gallons of highly flammable fuel slammed into an overpass support and exploded in a huge fireball in a freeway in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia a few days ago killing more than 20 people and injuring hundreds more. Saudi authorities reported that most of the victims were burned alive and were charred beyond recognition as the fuel truck smashed into the concrete pillars and ended on its side, spilling its deadly cargo onto the oncoming vehicles in the expressway and then....exploded into a fiery inferno.
The force of the blast was so intense that even cars, trucks and buildings located 300 meters away were all blown to Kingdom come and burned to a crisp! A Filipino who was sleeping inside his parked truck along the highway to take a rest was one of the fatalities (not the fuel truck driver as he managed to escape the fire and explosion), 11 other Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) working in nearby factories and establishments were also injured by the blast. More than 200 people were hurt and suffered burns in their head, face, arms, hands, etc. and they were all rushed to nearby hospitals for treatment. The authorities ruled out sabotage or terrorist activities in the massive explosion and confirmed that it was an accident.
The fuel truck driver who is a Filipino is now in Saudi jail and faces multiple charges because of the accident. He may stay there for the next 100 years if the Saudis don't decide to chop his head off. This unlucky guy may never make back home in one piece if the Saudis decide to impose the harshest punishment on his case. That poor OFW may not have intentionally blown up his rig and all was just an accident but it doesn't really matter now because the Saudis are not exactly concerned about Filipino workers rights in their country. We have already heard of countless human rights violations in that country being directed at OFWs, not to mention the sodomy and rape. Better expect the worst treatment for this poor chap from the Saudis, folks!
I'm not saying that it was the truck driver's fault but according to OFWs from the Middle East, the authorities there always blame it all on the OFWs. If you get hit by a vehicle being driven by a local even if you're in the sidewalk it's always your fault. If the vehicle your driving gets into an accident it's always your fault because the authorities there believe that if you, a Filipino never went to their country to work then that accident would have never happened in the first place! Now, do you agree with their theory and reasoning? Does that sound fair to you guys? In their country, when the shit hits the fan and a Filipino worker is caught in the middle then it will always end up as his fault. Yup, OFWs sacrifice a lot to feed their families back home and they always get bad treatment abroad and even in their own country. Will the honest Filipinos bad luck ever, ever change?....
