Typhoon Pablo Kills More Than 600 People in Mindanao.

Typhoon Pablo which struck the regions of the Compostela Valley, Davao Oriental, Cagayan De Oro and other municipalities in Mindanao have left more than 600 people dead with hundreds more that are injured or missing. The howler ripped off the roofs of houses and buildings that stood in its path; trees were uprooted and were snapped like matchsticks. But the worst and damaging part are the flash floods and mudslides that came crashing down from the mountain slopes  towards the helpless communities. Towns and municipalities were literally buried and obliterated in a matter of minutes or even in seconds!

It was the massive combination of water, mud, humongous rocks and illegally cut lumber that washed down from the mountains that caused so much death and destruction. People who were trying to escape to safer grounds were buried alive by an avalanche of sludge, timber, huge rocks and loads and loads of flood waters. Nobody was spared; innocent men, women and children were are all killed.....even the soldiers who were trying to help the civilians to move to safer grounds were also crushed and buried alive!

The affected areas looked like an eerie and spine chilling scene from a horror movie. Houses with blown off roofs and half buried if not totally destroyed by mud, rocks and washed-out trees. Highways and bridges simply disappeared under tons and tons of debris. Dead bodies are lined up on the streets awaiting proper identification from surviving relatives before being buried; the smell of death and decay is everywhere.....even soldiers that are accustomed to seeing broken, mutilated and rotting corpses in the battlefields were shocked and emotionally affected.

There are so many dead victims that the authorities are forced to bury them in mass graves to prevent the spread of diseases. The corpses are no longer placed inside coffins and are simply wrapped in blankets, tarpaulin or plastic bags because there are no more caskets available. The cadavers are in advanced state of decomposition because there is not enough supply of formalin to preserve them and funeral parlors are simply overwhelmed with so much dead bodies.

This is a great tragedy that struck our fellowmen in Mindanao. Survivors are in desperate need of food, medicine, water, clothing and shelter. The dreadful and shocking aftermath of this destructive typhoon will stay forever in the mind and spirit of the survivors. They badly need our help and our prayers....The Christmas Season in that part of the country will surely be sad and woeful. May God bless and help those that have survived and the souls of the departed rest in peace.....

Update: Pres. Noynoy Aquino has visited the typhoon ravaged areas a few days ago. He gave Php10,000 to each survivor who lost a family member and brought some relief goods. More relief goods, more rescuers and more medical personnel are set to arrive in the following days. Some countries have also pledged help to the victims. Rebuilding the devastated region with slowly begin....A lot of opportunistic politicians are also giving away relief goods with their ugly and corrupt faces maliciously printed on the relief bags. SOBs!!!
