The Bangsa Moro Framework has been officially signed in Malacanang a few days ago. According to the Philippine Government and the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF), this will create a new region/s in Mindanao where Muslims can run their own Government and eventually achieve peace after many decades of conflict. The proponents of the new Autonomous Region said that once peace is attained in that area, businesses and other developments will follow and provide jobs which will finally end poverty and strife in Mindanao.
We all want pace in Mindanao. Christians and Muslims have long suffered from endless hardships in that region. During the Marcos Regime, a treaty was also signed and it was called the "Tripoli Agreement" and no less than the late Muammar Khadafy and then First Lady Imelda Marcos and various Muslim leaders signed that covenant which promised everlasting peace in Mindanao. Then in the leadership of Pres. Fidel V. Ramos, the autonomous Region of Muslim Mindanao or ARMM was also signed and Moro National Liberation Front (MNLF) leader Nur Misuari was given control of Mindanao.
Was everlasting peace ever achieved in that troubled region? For a while peace was attained but various factions have often derailed and destroyed that temporary tranquility. Sadly, both peace agreements or covenants failed in its promise of maintaining reconciliation and harmony in Mindanao. Now, the Bangsa Moro Autonomous Entity is signed to soon replace the ARMM and the residents of Mindanao hope and pray that this will finally solve and end all conflicts in that area but the MNLF headed by Nur Misuari is already showing signs of agitation. Misuari alleges that more than 17,000 MILF fighters are deserting their camps and defecting to his group. Could this be true? Or is Nur Nisuari just sour-griping because the ARMM that he once headed is now being replaced and deleted?
Let's all hope that the Bangsa Moro Autonomous Entity will finally answer the age old cry and clamor for everlasting peace in Mindanao. Our Christian and Muslim brothers have long suffered from decades of war and hardship. Thousands or hundreds of thousands of innocent men, women and children have needlessly died in Mindanao and countless Filipino soldiers have also perished in that troubled land. Instead of creating trouble and disturbance in Mindanao, Nur Misuari and all MILF, MNLF members, all Christians and Muslims should work hand in hand to finally realize their on dream; a united, serene and non-violent Mindanao....
