Paranaque Bishop Diverted Millions of Funds Intended for Ondoy Flood Victims???

A news story about a Catholic Bishop who diverted more than 1 million pesos worth of donations intended for Typhoon Ondoy flood victims was aired on TV a few days ago. The Bishop was reported by priests from the Archdiocese of Paranaque which is composed of the cities of Paranaque, Las Pinas and Muntinlupa. The 2 priests who ratted on their superior (anonymously, of course) also presented various documents to support their allegations against their religious leader.

Now this further proves that even the clergy and the Catholic Church is not immune from corrupt, greedy and crooked individuals. No less than a Bishop was accused of diverting the contributions for the poor and hapless Ondoy flood victims a few years ago. The flood victims were asked if they got any help from the Catholic Church and they all said that they got nothing from the Archdiocese of Paranaque.

So here in our country where we can no longer trust our Politicians and Government Leaders for being truthful and honest, it seems that the Catholic Church or it's clergy is also following suit; with priests and Bishops that are treacherous, devious and can't keep their hands off the cookie jar. They collect money or donations from their followers or flock for the alleviation of disaster victims and yet the money is redirected or diverted for other purposes other than the ones intended for it.

That is plain and simple fraud, scam, swindling, sham, deception, estafa or whatever you may want to call it. Yup, even the Catholic Church or some of its clergy are joining the bandwagon of graft and corruption. Remember the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO) issue a few years back about the Catholic Bishops who asked the PCSO for funds to purchase vehicles to be used for emergency purposes in times of calamities but the Bishops ended up buying Asian Utility Vehicles (AUVs) for their own personal use?

I guess you simply can't trust anybody these days, especially if it concerns huge amounts of money; some people just can't resist the temptation to lie, cheat and steal. By the way, I'm a Roman Catholic since birth but I'll never condone any wrongdoings from my religious leaders; they should all be investigated thoroughly by their superiors and punished accordingly. Bishop or not, this asshole must be castigated.

If the Catholic Church doesn't clean up its ranks, more and more Catholics will stop trusting and believing in their priests. That will mean more defections to other religious groups, lesser followers and lesser donations. The Catholic Church should not take these things lightly, this is 2012 and not the Middle Ages. Sure, majority of Filipinos are Roman Catholics but that doesn't mean that all Catholics will never convert to other religions. Roman Catholics are not a bunch of dumb asses, the Catholic Church should always remember that.....
