Syrian Employers Charging RP Embassy $10,000 for each OFW Exit Visas.

In times of war, it's literally "every man for himself". At least that seems to be the situation now in Syria with regards to our Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs). It was reported a few days ago that Syrian employers are charging exorbitant fees before they allow our Filipino workers to legally leave their war torn nation. The Philippine Embassy in Syria reportedly has to pay a whopping $10,000 for each Pinoy worker before their Syrian employers sign their exit visas. The normal fee before all hell broke loose in that nation was about $3,000 for each OFW.

The Philippine Embassy in Syria is really racing against time, bullets and bombs to get more than 9,000 OFWs out of that country before the bad situation turns for the worst. The task is not easy; the Philippine Embassy personnel have to risk their life and limb against the warring forces all over Syria. The fact that there are a lot of illegal or undocumented OFWs also added to the danger, confusion and complication of the rescue efforts. The Embassy personnel have to to search and save these Filipinos from flying bullets and exploding bombs. It is a nightmarish situation and I wouldn't want to be in their shoes right now.

Let's all pray that all Filipinos in Syria make it out alive, unhurt and in one piece from that war-ravaged nation. These OFWs are just there to earn a living and certainly has no quarrel with anybody in that country. Let us also support and praise the Philippine Embassy personnel in Syria for risking their own lives in order to save our OFWs from sure harm. We will pray for your safety and protection....
