A Filipino amateur boxer died in a town fiesta boxing match sponsored by the town Mayor in Iba, Zambales a few days ago. The poor fella suffered brain injuries and was in coma for three long days before he finally died. He was enticed to join the amateur boxing match even if he was sick a couple of days ago with the flu because he needed the Php2,000 prize that was at stake. His family said that his opponent was clearly not an amateur boxer and that was why the victim died of head injuries. He was simply outclassed by his boxing opponent.
The Town Mayor was interviewed by the local media and was asked why the apparent mismatch of the two opponents and he was asked if they strictly screen their boxing participants. Do you know what this asshole Mayor said to the media? No, they don't screen the fighters well and the boxing organizers just accept lock, stock and barrel about what the fighters say about themselves as true. The Mayor and the boxing organizers never screen their fighters well enough to prevent such deaths from happening. The Mayor was again asked if he will stop sponsoring amateur boxing matches during the next town fiestas to avoid having the same incident but the Mayor said the show will and must go on as one of the towns' main attractions.
Holy Mary, Mother of God! Do you believe this Town Mayors' outright stupidity? He doesn't care at all if 1, 10 or a 100 amateur boxers die in that ring during their town fiesta celebrations! He doesn't even have the intellect to strictly implement the thorough screening of all fighters to prevent future deaths like this one from ever happening again.
