Novo Dept. Store Blaze Kills 17 in Butuan City.

A department store in Butuan city caught fire a few days ago and 20 stay-in workers were trapped inside the building. 3 managed to escape the blaze while 17 others died due to suffocation and were severely burned. The fire struck at nighttime which could have further increased the danger and intensified the confusion of the victims. Authorities and witnesses said that the victims were locked up inside the building by the business owners at night and that is why they couldn't get out of the structure and were burned to death.

The grieving relatives confirmed that the employees were indeed shut in by their bosses inside the establishment at night and that was the main reason why the victims all perished in the fire. Most of the remains were found huddled together in a room which fire investigators said were obvious signs that the casualties didn't know where to escape. The 3 lucky ones that did make out alive said that they never knew where the fire escapes were and that the management and the building owners never conducted fire drills to familiarize the tenants and workers of the building where the fire escapes are located. The 3 said they had to jump two stories down to escape the flames.

Most of the dead were young females who were working at the Novo Department Store which was allegedly owned by a Taiwanese group that set up businesses there. The Taiwanese owners were nowhere to be found after the incident and local authorities are still investigating the allegations that the employees were purposely locked inside every night by the owners and were not allowed to go outside. These crazy businessmen are up to no good locking those women up in that building at night. Those people should be able to get out fast when emergencies do occur. It's no joke to die of suffocation and then burned to a crisp. One of the victims was 5 months pregnant....

If these allegations are true then the Taiwanese businessmen should be held liable for the deaths of these poor victims. Why did the owners locked them up and never conducted fire drills to train and familiarize their employees in the event that a fire does happen? Maybe the Taiwanese owners sealed them up after suspecting that the employees might steal their products but if that were the case then could have refused stay-in workers and just let all employees out of the building after work hours and then they can weld all doors shut and pour concrete on all entrances and exits if they want to. Damn these buggers, maybe we should burn their asses too! The Authorities should look into this incident well and put those who are negligent behind bars, foreigner or not. 17 people burned to death, which should not be taken lightly by our Government or by anybody.
