The much awaited American Idol Finale is over and Phillip Phillips won the contest while Filipino-Mexican favorite Jessica Sanchez gets 2nd place. Well, a lot of Pinoy and Mexican fans were a bit disappointed and others were quite vocal about their hurt feelings at the decision. Many think that Jessica Sanchez should have won the title hands down but others also disagree.
A few unsatisfied Jessica Sanchez supporters even expressed complaints about being a minority race in America and that is why the Filipino-Mexican singer didn't get all the much needed votes from the populace to win the title as American Idol. Yup, a lot of grievances were being aired by her fans but I guess that's always the case when some people get disappointed. I must admit I was also rooting for Jessica to win not simply because she was half-Pinay but I like her voice and style better than Phillips.
Come on guys, it's a singing contest; of course the Americans will support their own fellowmen, it's called Patriotism and in Filipino term we call it "Bayanihan Spirit." So for God's sake don't make it a racial discrimination issue okay? At least the Americans still continue to support their own folks despite their economic woes just like how we Pinoys support our own too.
That is water under the bridge folks; the guy won so let's all accept that and congratulate the champ. It's no use griping, grumbling and whining about who should have won. Although Phillips won the title, all Mexicans and Filipinos should be proud that Jessica is in 2nd place against all that talented singers who also joined the competition. Filipinos and Mexicans maybe a minority and often ridiculed and discriminated by other races for having darker skin but hell, we sure have a lot of talented people out there regardless of our skin color.
I'm happy and proud about this 16 year old kid, maybe next season a Pinoy will eventually win the title without anybody questioning the decision. So cheer up guys and let's wait for the next singer to blow our socks off next year! I'm sure we got more talented people out there somewhere, it's just a matter of time and they will be discovered too.
