The latest news a few days ago related to the Spratly's issue is that the U.S. plans to give the Philippines a ship and a couple of jet planes to patrol its territorial waters. The U.S. also made it clear that it will not help the Philippines if a shooting war starts in that region and that the Americans prefer that all nations (including them I suppose) are free to explore the Spratly's Islands area for oil and gas deposits.
Well, we can't blame the U.S. if it refuses to back the Philippines when it comes to fighting another war with China, the U.S. haven't finished its war on terrorism in the Middle East and a lot of money was spent in those wars abroad. The Americans also suffered lots of casualties in those wars with the terrorists and countless young U.S. soldiers were maimed and killed in Iraq and Afghanistan so most of their citizens don't like their Government talking about more wars anywhere else in the world. If you're an American Politician and you keep on talking about war again then you'll surely loose in the next elections, dude.
I think that is also good news that the U.S. is not too interested to join the fight against the Chinese because that way our Government will also stop dreaming that we can defeat the Chinese Military with help of the Americans. That someday the Philippines can finally claim the Spratly's Islands as it's own and enjoy the reported vast oil and gas resources that it holds. The Filipino people are already heavily burdened with economic difficulties and fed up with our crooked politicians, the last thing we need is going to war with more than 1 billion screaming Chinese with a powerful military that could easily blow us all to kingdom come. No blood for oil, dude!!!
Besides, I still maintain my previous statement that even if we do finally own the whole Spartly's Islands with all its vast oil and gas reserves that the ordinary Juan Dela Cruz will never benefit from it. Hell! Even if we own the entire Middle East our Politicians will only suck all that petrodollars for their own advantage! Only our crooked leaders will enjoy all that wealth and the poor Filipinos will still remain in poverty and in misery. So why waste precious Filipino soldiers' lives when it's the bastard politicians who will get fat and rich again?
Nah, let's forget the oil in those islands and focus more on finding better, renewable and non-polluting fuel resources for our needs. "Make love not war!" That's the hippies' famous slogan in the 60's and I think that's better than killing each other for oil. Let's help our environment and stay away from bully nations that are run by leaders just like ours, you know, run by corrupt and asshole leaders.....
