70% 0f Crimes are Unsolved by the PNP.

According to a news report by a TV network, 70% of the crimes committed in the Philippines are never solved by the Philippine National Police (PNP). Last year alone, about 150,000 crimes were perpetrated and less than 50,000 offenses were resolved by the cops. Now, that is an alarming statistics. 70% of unresolved crimes is too high if you ask me.

The crimes are unsolved due to the lack of witnesses, wrong or incorrect evidence gathering and of course, laziness of the policemen to investigate, follow up leads and to arrest the suspects. It's not a mystery that criminals are brazenly committing their crimes in this country. They do it in broad daylight, in public and in highly populated areas like malls, streets and in the busiest neighborhoods, etc, simply because they have no fear of being caught by the authorities.

In a country like the Philippines where poverty is prevalent crimes are also rampant. Poverty and crime seems to go hand in hand. That is why it is of great importance to have an efficient Police Force. We need cops that are dedicated to their jobs and not just there to pick up their monthly salaries, tote their guns, commit abuses against civilians and getting fat doing nothing. We need cops just like the one who shot it out with the crooks inside a bus a few days ago.

We need a law enforcement agency that is fit, strong, well-equipped and ready pounce on the criminal elements. Crime prevention is also a very important factor to keep the lawbreakers in check. If most offenders are quickly arrested and jailed no matter how well-planned and cleanly executed their wrongful deeds are, then it will crate a mindset among these villains that "crime does not really pay".

But I guess that kind of highly efficient law enforcement may never happen in our country. Why? Again I must go back and reiterate the importance of honesty and decency in our leadership. For how can a lowly ranked policeman perform his duties well, keep his morale high and maintain his moral standards if his superiors are a bunch of crooks? How can an ordinary street cop uphold the law, to serve and protect the citizenry if he is ill-equipped, badly trained and always outgunned by the outlaws?

Every year for many decades now, millions or billions of pesos have been allocated to the PNP budget for its modernization purposes but there seems to be less and less improvement in its efficiency in preventing and solving crimes. It is because most of the budget is spent on constructing new buildings for the police stations, for patrol cars and for new uniforms, etc. Although the cops really need these new equipment and buildings, the cops also need more various trainings and skills development on how to quickly solve crimes.Let's accept the fact that a lot of our cops are dumb when it comes to crime solving.

Why not spend more on sending hundreds or thousands of cops that are qualified, bright and honest abroad to study in the various outstanding Police Academies so that they can become "super cops" and not dumb cops? But I guess that will never happen, the Police Generals are more interested in constructing new buildings and buying new cars, weapons and uniforms because there are more kickbacks in it.

They probably do send a few bright cops abroad for further training but they are so few to make any difference. The Generals are more concerned about their "Pabaon" or cash gifts amounting to several millions of pesos when they retire and of course, they are more focused on their boodle. So it's no wonder that the ordinary cop on the street is slow and uninterested in solving crimes and going after the bad guys. If your boss is a crook and on the take, I guess in the long run you become like him too.

  1. This is true. My brother was brutally murdered while watching a basketball game in their subdivision. It took nearly an hour before police came to think that there was a police outpost 2km away. Regardless if you're rich or poor the community is not helping neither the parochial priest who was present during the mass when the incident happen he didn't blessed my brother's dead body. He fear man over God. Where else can Pinoys turn to? Evidences were easily tampered. Who else Pinoys can trust? If this is happening to Pinoys how can the government protect visiting foreigners? I noticed from my reseach that these heinous unsolved crimes are rampant in provinces especially areas where political dynasty exists.

The least we can do is to send this out in international organisation and lambast the government for their misappropriation of funds. Make the provincial officers accountable. Another thing that I noticed is that everytime there is an election there will be blood shed.

Someone needs to check Philippines. No wonder why Philippines is belonged to high risk countries together with Afghanistan, Iraq and some other war areas. Other countries should stop helping and sending aids to Philippine government unless these politicians and policemen understand their role. Sad to hear that Philippines is known to be the only Catholic country in Asia but nobody follows God's commandments. Nobody fear God anymore.

    May God help the Philippines.

    1. You are 100% correct. Crimes are rampant and unsolved in our country. Politicians and Government Authorities are the ones that promote, engage and commit crimes and abuses against the innocent.

The quote, "Crime does not pay" and "No one is above the law" are just words in our nation. In our country, "Crime does pay and it pays well" and "Everyone who's powerful and influncial is always above the Law".

I also agree that someone should check, correct and stop all this wrongdoings in our country. Is it time for the UN to physically and militarily "correct" our leader's abuses?

I honestly don't know my friend. I don't even know if the UN has the right and authority to interfere with our problems although if that is the only way to stop the killings, the abuses, the graft & corruption and the drug menace; then I would submit myself to the UN's guidance.

But then millions of our countrymen would probably laugh at me and will defy any foreign intervention in our nation. We are Filipinos and we are naturally against any foreign occupation.

So what does the future has in store for us if these barbaric, abusive and illegal activities continue for many more generations? It's a very scary and bleak future my friend...we all need to pray for change in our country and we nedd it really fast.
