Have you seen the latest news clip about Manny "Pacman" Pacquiao a few days ago? It's something about being able to cure someone from illness after Manny prayed over that person. Damn, I almost fell out of my seat after watching that news. Is he out of his mind? Has Manny Pacquiao totally gone bonkers? Or is he trying to yank our chains again?
The Catholic Church really made a mistake when they made him a spokesperson or something a few weeks ago. Before the priests can say "Amen" Manny's going to be a "Faith Healer" just like Jun Labo or something and soon he would be putting up his own branch of religion ala "El Shaddai" leader Mike Velarde. Then his ego will get bigger (and it's really big now!) that he will no longer listen to the Church just like Mike Velarde.
That seems to be the problem with the Catholic Church these days; it's too quick on picking persons to promote their cause. The Church no longer checks out their spokesperson if they are qualified or not, I guess fame and fortune is their number one qualification. Just like majority of us, we love kissing some famous guy's ass.
I'm Catholic and I try my best to follow what the Church says but sometimes they make dumb moves too. Just like their Anti-RH Bill stand, the PCSO solicited vehicles for the clergy's private use and now this, making Manny Pacquiao their spokesperson.
I have no beef with Manny Pacquiao, he's a great boxer but he had become a social climber. I find him as OA or over acting and very arrogant and big-headed. Not that he can't can't afford to be one with all that millions of dollars but it kind of leaves a bad taste in my mouth. I also disapprove of him hanging out with the wrong people like scumbag politicians, plunderers, gamblers, etc. and him being a politician now will probably make him a scumbag soon enough. But I'm not his mother so I can't tell him what to do. Besides, his mom's a bit weird too. :)
I guess the Catholic Church in the Philippines also got infected with the common disease that most politicians and corrupt leaders have in this country. The greed and the bad habit of kissing the asses of the rich and famous.....

Everybody knows why he is doing this kind of stunt and Yes, your guess is as good as mine!
ReplyDeleteManny is a good man, he is undoubtedly the greatest boxer that ever lived and he's got a pure heart....but if he keeps on mixing up with these corrupt politicians he will end up just like them and that would be a great waste.
ReplyDeleteHe is already famous in his own right, he doesn't have to do every stunt that some people who pretend to be his good buddies tell him to do to get more famous.
He should keep listening to his coach Freddie Roach who have been cautioning Manny about all this crap about entering Politics and mixing it up with these "Trapos" or traditional politicians.
I would hate to see Manny end up like most of my good countrymen who ended up as corrupt politicians.
That would be a great waste indeed....
Why follow the church when you can follow Christ directly? :) Isn't your own relationship with the Lord more important than looking on to someone's belief and doings. Whatever they are doing just let them, everyone is a work in progress... God knows each and every persons hearts. And i really do believe that God is still working on Pacman's heart. Whether God is working on him or not our assurance of salvation is not based on your PERFORMANCE for Christ, but it is based on Christ performance in you. ^_^

I definitely agree with you that we can follow Christ directly. I just hope Manny doesn't use his popularity and Jesus Christ so he can get more famous.
DeleteI also pray that when Manny retires as a boxer and becomes a full pledged politician that he doesn't lose his decency, morality and his soul.
But I guess that is wishful thinking since we all know that anybody and everybody who becomes a politician ends up as an evil person due to the power, money, influence and evilness that goes with politics....
