Spratly's Islands, a group of more than 600 islets in the middle of the China Sea or the West Philippine Sea as our Government would prefer to call it is being disputed by many Southeast Asian countries. China, Vietnam, Taiwan, Malaysia, Brunei and the Philippines have been claiming ownership of the Spratly's Islands since the 1950's because of its alleged vast oil and and gas reserves.
In 1933 to 1945, the Spratly's Islands were controlled by France and Japan took over during World War II (1939-1945) then after that conflict, China began claiming it too. In 1988 more than 70 people were killed when China and Vietnam clashed because of those islands and up to now it is a dangerous area because many of these countries still refuse to give up their rights to those islets.
Now, it's the Philippines and China who are arguing and quarrelling like old hags over a bunch of islets in the middle of nowhere. Because some geological surveys that said the place was full of oil and gas, neighboring countries are ready to slit each other's throat. Damn, there goes the Devil, laughing his ass off at us humans because of our greed for wealth and power!
The conflict between these countries could have been settled once and for all if China would agree in submitting the dispute to the International Courts but the Chinese wouldn't have any of that legal gobbledygook. The Chinese would prefer using their warships and warplanes than heeding any legal advice from any court in the world. That seems to be the case when a country is big, powerful and have a robust economy.
As for the Philippines' emaciated, skeletal and crawling economy which is being kept afloat by Filipino Overseas Workers (OFWs) and not by its corrupt Government Leaders, we simply cannot fight the Chinese with our old and antiquated ships and planes. Which is a good thing since it will prevent any Filipino soldier from dying for those islands. Even if the Spratly's Islands are full of oil and gas deposits, it's not worth dying for because the ordinary Filipino would never, never benefit from it.
I'll bet my last breath that our bloodsucking Politicians and Government Leaders would surely pocket every peso that is generated by any oil well in our country. The same way they did on those illegal logging, illegal mining, illegal gambling and illegal everything in our country. Its our Politicians and Government Leaders who are master minding all illegal activities in our country so I'd rather see our ordinary soldier go home alive and well to his family than let him die fighting for those bloody islands so our fat and useless leaders can get chunkier from stealing more money.
