A female Overseas Filipino Worker (OFW) began acting weird aboard a flight from war torn Syria. The OFW was noticed by fellow passengers as showing signs of irrational behavior during the flight and the plane crew was alerted. She was then let off the plane once it landed in Bangkok, Thailand where the aircraft was scheduled for a stopover.
The poor Pinay OFW was then rushed to the hospital located within the airport where she was calmed down with the use of sedatives. When a TV News reporter from the Philippines went to Bangkok to verify the OFW's condition, the news team was informed that the Filipina was already discharged from the hospital and was put on a flight bound for the Philippines. It was later learned that the OFW went home somewhere in Mindanao.
The unfortunate woman could have been a victim of maltreatment or abuse by her employers and not just distressed by the war in Syria. A lot of suffering both physically, mentally and sexually could have been inflicted on her which caused such a state of mind. That is often the dreadful consequence of working abroad; OFWs are ending up physically, mentally, sexually and emotionally battered. Sometimes they end up dead and are brought home inside a coffin with their internal organs missing.
Let's call on the Government to help protect its citizens here and abroad. It's not enough to just call them as "New Heroes" or "Bagong Bayani" and then forget about them once they end up injured, impaired or dead overseas. These are the people that kept our economy afloat during these hard and difficult times. When all the rich and well-developed nations suffered Global Economic Slowdowns, Recessions and Depressions; the Philippines was not so much affected and devastated because of the billions of pesos from OFW remittances.
YUP, IT'S NOT THE BRILLIANT POLITICIANS, MARVELOUS GOVERNMENT LEADERS AND EXCEPTIONAL ECONOMIC EXPERTS THAT KEPT OUR COUNTRY SURVIVING ALL THESE YEARS, AS A MATTER OF FACT; THEY ARE THE ONES WHO KEPT PLUNGING OUR COUNTRY INTO NEAR EXTINCTION. It's our OFWs and honest citizens that have kept us alive and well. I hope the Government will take care of our OFWs better because they are truly the ones who kept our country from going down the drain for the past 30 or more years.
