The Aquino Administration should temporarily suspend the 12% Value Added Tax (VAT) on all Petroleum products to lessen the impact of the high prices of fuel. The spiraling fuel prices have been heavily burdening the poor and ordinary Juan Dela Cruzes who can barely make ends meet.
Various transport groups and countless activists have been clamoring the Government to temporarily suspend the 12% VAT on fuel products due to the weekly fuel hikes but it all fell on deaf ears. The soaring world oil prices are due o the U.S.-Iran tension and the civil unrest in Syria. The tension between U.S. and Iran may end up into another Gulf War and that is pushing the oil prices to record levels.
If a shooting war erupts between the U.S. and Iran, we can all kiss our fossil fueled contraptions goodbye and we better start using our muscle power for mobility. Yup, if the price of fuel goes sky high it will surely make all our lives miserable. Hell, most Filipinos now can't afford to cook their food using cooking gas or LPG, so they use charcoal or wood which means more trees are being cut down somewhere. So we can kiss our hopes of preventing Global Warming or Climate Change from happening as well.
Unfortunately, the Government will never remove, suspend or even lessen the 12% VAT even if all hell breaks loose in the Middle East. Politicians always tell the public that the VAT cannot be suspended because it's needed to make the Government run efficiently and to provide better services. We all know that's pure bullshit.
We all know better, the Government will never suspend the 12% VAT come hell or high water because it's where they steal the billions and billions of taxes that they collect from all of us Juan Dela Cruzes. It's because of the VAT that these Politicians get FAT, from our hard earned money.
So they don't care if we all fall down on our knees and beg them to cut us a little slack during these difficult times. No sir, these Government Officials will suck every last centavo from Juan Dela Cruz and not even feel guilty about it. 100% pure VERMIN!
