Ever since the Puerto Princesa Underground River (PPUR) officially made it to the "New 7 Wonders of the World", Palawan is now being invaded! Invaded by foreign and local tourists that is, not by the Abu Sayyaf or any other lawless elements. As much as a thousand tourists flock to the area everyday, giving the locals there a good source of livelihood, decent and honest source of income.
The whole place is also being improved by the Local Government (at last!) and police personnel are soon to be increased and deployed to the area for the safety and protection of the tourists. You know, to prevent crimes and abuses committed both by the locals and the tourists. In the past, when certain places become tourist attractions , bars and prostitutes suddenly pop up like mushrooms, drugs also begin to proliferate, crimes start to increase both perpetrated by the locals and the visitors. Crimes like pedophilia, theft and prostitution, excessive pricing of goods, services and facilities, etc.
We don't want that happening again in Palawan or anywhere else in our country. Let's keep our tourism industry really clean, honest, wholesome, orderly and reasonable. No more prostitution or pedophilia, no more thefts or kidnappings, no more over-pricing and absolutely no destruction of the environment.
Let's all keep it "World Class" ok? So to all foreign and local tourists out there, come and "invade" the Philippines! Come and enjoy our country! We've got 7,107 islands (yup, you read it right, 7,107!) here all waiting to be discovered and explored! "Tara na, Byahe na!" ("Let's go and travel!") :)
