Want to buy my Organ?

This is an old story but it is still happening in the Philippines with alarming frequency. Poor Filipinos selling their kidneys to rich people who need a new organ when their own have stopped functioning. Kidneys are priced at about Php120,000 or more but the "donor" won't get the full amount because the middleman has to deduct his agent's fee. Yes, desperate folks here end up selling their organs to foreigners or to rich locals just to make ends meet. It's illegal but a lot of despairing people are doing it.

The Government said it's doing its best to stop the unscrupulous practice but that's not really true. Even if the alleged donor won't admit that his really selling his kidney and not donating it to the patient it is very easily noticed by the doctors performing the transplant since no dumb guy is willing to have his gut opened up just so he could give his kidney to a complete stranger. But most of the doctors and authorities are willing to look the other  way. Why? It's the money dude; it's always about the money. Organ transplants are not cheap and the doctors get paid well hence, they keep their mouth shut.

So it's not just the "donor" who's making money, the doctors and the middlemen are the ones greatly benefiting  by these illegal acts. The recipients are also rewarded a longer lease on life but when their time finally runs out, the question is, will they pay for their sins? What about the doctors, will they pay for their sins too or they can weasel their way out by saying that they were trying to help a patient? And the "donor", will he pay for his immorality too?

Money, money, money. I always find myself saying this so often. Everybody just can't resist the temptation of money. Rich man, poor man, we're all addicted to money....What have we all become?  May God help us all......
