Picking Up the Pieces....

A week after the 6.9 quake that damaged most parts of Negros Oriental the community is slowly tying its best to start all over again. Most have started reopening their businesses despite the still damaged infrastructure; the roads that were destroyed were temporarily covered with gravel so that vehicles could pass through.

Some parts of the quake affected areas have electricity now and potable water is also being supplied by the Military from water purifying machines. Relief goods are also being delivered and distributed to the areas and communities that need them most. Although most of the residents still refuse to stay and sleep inside their homes  due to frequent aftershocks, theVisayans  are slowly but surely picking up the pieces.....and will soon start living normally again.

I guess the quick recovery is because of the resilient trait of the Filipino people. We were once compared to the bamboo, a giant grass which is very flexible and bendable. Almost impossible to be broken or snapped by strong gusts of air because it just goes along with the wind. But still, everything and anything has its limitations and the Filipinos are of no exemption. we are merely humans after all.

It's good to see that the Filipinos are still irrepressible, hardy and spirited people despite these difficult and challenging times in our lives. The never ending daily struggles of trying to  make ends meet due to the economic hardships that our countrymen have to endure. The flash floods, landslides, earthquakes, volcanic eruptions and typhoons that often come our way and take its toll both on human life and property. The abuses made by Government Officials who are mostly immoral and dishonest....

It's not easy being a Filipino these past decades....but witnessing the respectable character, decent, courteous and good moral fiber of honest ordinary folks....that's what makes me proud to be a Filipino!
