Visayas hit by 6.9 Quake!

A powerful quake jolted a part of Visayas a few days ago at about past 11am. At least 7 people were feared dead due to falling debris and a few collapsed structures. A Tsunami warning was issued immediately after the quake as it was caused by an undiscovered fault line under the sea. Geologists said the quake was strong enough and was near the shoreline that it could generate a strong Tsunami. However, the Tsunami warning was later cancelled as no big waves were created.

People in the areas affected by the strong tremor were caught by surprise and were a bit shaken, some almost panicked. Most of the populace immediately went out of the buildings and were on the streets to avoid falling debris. Some of the buildings suffered cracks and fissures but thankfully, there was minimal damage. The streets also showed signs of damage but most were also marginal.

It was good that no great destruction was occurred on the multiple story buildings although 7 people did die as result of that quake. Very minimal but still, human lives were lost. The Philippines sits on hundreds or maybe thousands of fault lines and earthquakes are therefore a natural occurrence, it is also on the Pacific Ring of Fire so we have lots of active volcanoes here. Earthquake drills are frequently conducted to help keep the public ready and alert in case such disasters strike but still, when Mother Nature shows her power, we really can't do anything much but pray for God's mercy.

Man may have all the advanced technology but it really means nothing when Mother Nature decides to show us humans what strength is really all about. Just look at how typhoons, tornadoes, hurricanes, snowstorms/blizzards, sand storms, floods, landslides, volcanoes, earthquakes and tsunamis unleash their awesome power and then we all realize that we are not so powerful and great after all. Yup, we're just a speck of sand compared to Mother Nature.
