Still Hurting.....

A few months after the devastating 9.0 earthquake that almost obliterated large parts of Japan, the damaged areas are still to be rehabilitated. Most of the people that survived the worst quake in the history of Japan are still in evacuation centers, many of them are Filipinas married to Japanese citizens.

For many months now they have survived on Japanese Government food aid since they cannot find a decent job in the area. Japan is also hit by the Global Economic Recession that is plaguing U.S. and Europe. Hence it is difficult to find employment and the nation cannot easily repair the destruction that the massive tremor and tsunami inflicted on their nation.

A lot of the affected areas are still uninhabited, predominantly the hard hit districts have been abandoned...some are considered as ghost towns due to the absence of people living there. Hundreds of damaged homes are still not repaired; hundreds of smashed cars are still piled to a heap alongside the highways. An out of this world sight, almost like a scene from a science fiction movie. Most of the residents died from the tsunami so it wouldn't be surprising if it were indeed a "ghost town" with real ghosts roaming around.

I hope the large quake that hit Japan would never happen here in the Philippines but local scientists are worried and have repeatedly reminded us that two major fault lines in the Marikina area have been dormant for more than 200 hundred years. 200 hundred years of storing incredible energy just waiting for the right moment to explode. A bad sign an a perfect recipe for real enormous disaster, just waiting to happen. There's nothing much that we can do really, except pray and hope for the best......
